Creative Writing

My MFA thesis manuscript, “Desire Lines,” is a collection of poems that explores issues of embodiment, identity, and perception. A number of the poems engage in a project of making and breaking the formal conventions of the sonnet as a way to explore social scripts and gender identity. The last third of the collection consists of a chapbook-length work called “No Other Heaven,” a chronological sequence of poems depicting Percy Bysshe Shelley’s romance(s) and  subsequent betrayal(s) of Harriet Westbrook, his first wife, and the schoolteacher Elizabeth Hitchener. These poems are written from the perspective of the two women, interspersed with quotes from Shelley’s letters during the period 1809-1812.
